Between 1997 and 2003 Toyota released an all electric version of its popular RAV4 sport utility vehicle.

If you are unfamiliar with the RAV4, it's considered a compact crossover SUV that is considered one of the more fuel efficient vehicles in its class. While the gas powered RAV4 SUV is very popular, the electric RAV4 was not.

Between 1997 and 2003 sales were flat. Not many people were interested in an all electric SUV.

Now, the electric RAV4 is about to make a comeback. In 2010, Toyota announced a partnership with Tesla Motors to develop a new electric RAV4, which will be called the RAV4 EV. It is predicted to be out sometime in 2012. While there is still some time before the RAV4 EV hits the market, here are some things you need to know about it if you are thinking of buying one.

Like all electric vehicles the RAV4 EV will have a lithium battery. According to Toyota, it will be a lithium metal oxide battery with an output range around 30 kwh. Additionally the body of the RAV4 EV will be much different than the typical body of a standard RAV4. The front bumper, grille, headlamps, and fog lamps have all been redesigned. The new look gives the electric SUV an aerodynamic look. The RAV4 EV will also have a custom paint job as well as special logos that separate it from standard RAV4 SUVs.

Inside the new RAV4, there will be new seating and trim. It will include a multimedia dashboard as well as a push-button shifter. It will also have a 73 cubic foot cargo area when you fold down the rear seats. By comparison the standard 2011 RAV4 does not have all of these features. But if you can't wait for the RAV4 EV the standard RAV4 is a quality vehicle.

The 2011 RAV4 starts at $21,925 and has a variety of options such as integrated floor lamps, electronic on demand 4 wheel drive and many other options. In terms of gas mileage, it gets 22 miles per gallon during city driving and 28 miles per gallon during highway driving.

According to Toyota, the new RAV4 EV SUVs are testing around the 100 mile range before they need a charge. However this number may change once the vehicle is put into production in 2012.

Since the RAV4 EV is not due out until 2012, you will have some time to consider whether or not this is the right vehicle for you.

The benefits of electric cars include the fact that you're helping the environment. These types of cars decrease the United States' dependence on oil. However, it may be difficult to find qualified mechanics to work on these vehicles once they come out.

Toyota Cars has always been a market leader for many decades now. The brand has continued to deliver quality products and services to its loyal client base who do not think twice before buying any product from them.

However, there have been some technical malfunctions that have been experienced in the cars manufactured by Toyota. The fault has been found primarily in the accelerator pedal. It was few years back that Toyota first announced that it will introduce a shrunk model of the accelerator in all its 2007 - 2010 models. It was then only, that many automobile experts had raised their concern on this.

The thought behind this was that, if the gas pedal was made smaller, it would help avoid the situation of the accelerator being stuck under the floor mat of the driver. But the fact remained that it was only half the measure. The actual way of sorting out the problem was to reprogram the computer so that it would include a brake to idle fail safe.

The company has now recalled the cars that have new gas pedals and replaced them with brake to idle fail safe in some cars.

This new technology that the brand has introduced i.e. brake to idle fail safe, is something that is computer controlled. It cancels the accelerator inputs as the brakes are depressed. Thus, with this new technology, it becomes impossible for the accelerator, if ever stuck, to cause an accident. This is because a single touch of the brakes gives an indication to the computer that the gas pedal should be ignored.

The fail safe is a foolproof and simple countermeasure for the stuck up accelerator problem, as it only requires the ECU or engine control unit programming to be updated. Thus, when Toyota had announced that they would re-size the accelerator pedals in its new cars, they also announced that they would reprogram the Camry, Avalon and few other cars and include in them their latest technology i.e. brake-idle-fail safe system.

This indeed is great news for all the owners of Toyota. They as always, have ensured that they give the best to their customers and have thus set a great example of always doing the right thin

Hybrid cars have been and continue to be a hot topic among the auto industry and for good reason.

They aren't as harmful to the environment as normal gas guzzlers, and they get a much higher mile to every gallon. The main issue consumers had with hybrid models is that they didn't have a large selection of cars to choose from.

Toyota is changing all that with six new Hybrid model cars planned by 2012. Check out what our predictions for the models that they will be choosing.

The Toyota Highlander is a favorite ride of many people, so when they came out with the Highlander Hybrid model a few years ago it got many people excited. Well, now they are creating a hybrid model of one its top selling SUV, the Rav4. By 2012 we will see an all electric version of the Rav4 that competes with the Ford Escape Hybrid and hopefully gives the 30 mpg the Escape currently gets a run for its money. Toyota developed this car with Tesla so perhaps it will have some of the same functionality as the Prius.

Toyota Sienna Hybridis what the minivan market has been looking for years to find and now Toyota delivers. The only question is: Will the Sienna come before the Honda Odyssey Hybrid, which is supposedly being released within the next few years? The family van market is a great niche to control and by the time the Sienna Hybrid is released, people will be extremely happy to see it.

The Toyota Yaris is currently being developed for the Japanese market, so bringing it overseas to the United States is not a far stretch. The Yaris was a top seller because people are starting to care more about the gas mileage their car gets, rather than how much horsepower it has and what it looks like. Many people are already calling the Yaris the "Prius Jr." which is a great car to be associated with.

A Toyota Corolla Hybrid just makes sense to us. In a market where hybrids aren't yet mainstream as many believe they should be, creating a Toyota Corolla Hybrid can be just what is needed to give hybrids that push into the forefront of car purchases. Creating a Corolla hybrid will put gas-electric technology directly in the heart of Toyota's brand.

The last two hybrids announced are Lexus Hybrids which makes picking them a little more difficult. Currently they already have four Lexus hybrid models on the market and the CT200h should be coming to the US market by 2011. If it does that is one model taken care of and the other might be a sporty fast vehicle that complements the CT200h.

The new Audi A1 has been causing quite a stir since its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, and now Audi's smallest model has picked up the coveted What Car? Car of the Year 2011 award. It was a fantastic night for Audi's premium subcompact hatchback, which also took home the Best Supermini gong.

Steve Fowler, Editor-in-Chief of What Car? commented: "The Audi A1 is a brilliant car: brilliantly targeted and brilliantly executed. More and more buyers are looking for smaller, more efficient cars, but with all the luxury trappings of much larger cars. That's exactly what Audi has given them - a super-stylish, high quality small car that's affordable and great fun, too."

The A1, which is described by Audi as a 'big idea condensed', was voted as the Most Exciting Car of 2010 at last year's awards. Jeremy Hicks, Director of Audi said the combination of exceptional build quality, premium finishes, affordable running costs and class-leading value retention are what make the Audi A1 so sought after.

With prices starting from just £13,420 the Audi A1 is more expensive than its supermini rivals, if you think the Citroen C3 starts from £10,790 and the Fiat 500 has a price tag starting from £9,665. But there is no equal currently in the luxury car market, although BMW are planning a front wheel drive supermini that will be the smallest in its range. BMW's Audi A1 rival is set to be produced in 2015.

For now the A1 is hogging the limelight. The UK's national launch of the A1 on November 13th was a star studded event. The Audi A1 Drive Away saw celebrity drivers and guests take an en-masse test drive of the new city friendly A1 from London's Battersea Power Station.

Audi are still Europe's best selling premium brand, with 2010 proving the best year so far for the brand in terms of sales. The exclusive A7 Sportback was released in October and the new Audi TT, which took the top spot in the Coupe category for the fifth year running, has benefited from a number of enhancements for 2011. The What Car? panel were impressed by the TTs handling and improved performance.
